BALANCE IN MOVEMENT by Susanne von Dietze

A very interesting and detailed book for riders and instructors, written by a physiotherapist/riding instructor

"It is of especially high training value to work a muscle into becoming longer! In the theory of sport training, it is said that a muscle can achieve full performance only if it is warmed up and stretched properly."

"At the trot the horse's back rises and falls more evenly. Now imagine that your seat bones are a massaging hand. During a good massage the hand remains constantly on the body, it never loses contact, even when pressure and intensity change. The seat bones load the horse's back muscles laterally. The swinging back of a horse thus basically obtains its massage itself."

"The horse must be contained in between the lateral aids in the same measure as it is secured between the driving and restraining aids. Here as well, a proper interplay is created between the outside and inside aids. Only when inside and outside correspond with each other can the horse orient himself on the rider and be correctly positioned, bent or straightened."
